Karyn Putney, Board of Education Incumbent. I am grateful for the opportunity to run for my third term on the East Haven Board of Education. My husband, Brent, and I have called East Haven home for 15 years. Both of us are originally from the shoreline, and I was first introduced to this community as a volunteer with the East Haven Fire Department Company 1. My time serving as an EMT inspired my career path, and today I am a Registered Nurse. I have also worked as a substitute RN in East Haven Schools and served as a COVID-19 contact tracer for the New Haven School District. We are raising our two school-aged daughters in the East Haven district, giving us firsthand experience with our schools. Our family has had incredible interactions with the dedicated educators and paraprofessionals who not only meet students’ academic needs, but also their social-emotional well-being. Thanks to their teachers, my daughters developed a love for reading, and in 2017 we started a Little Free Library at our home to share that love with our community. Community involvement is something my family and I value deeply. I spent seven years as a Girl Scout troop leader, supporting an amazing group of young women as they grew into leaders. More recently, I have enjoyed coaching Foxon Recreation softball as my daughters discovered their passion for team sports. Together, our family also volunteers regularly with the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, which inspired us to become state-licensed wildlife rehabilitators. What started as a volunteer project has since grown into Farm River Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides critical services and helps educate local students about the wildlife in our community. As a member of the Board of Education, I want to continue contributing ideas, collaborating on solutions, and helping East Haven Schools become a model for surrounding districts. I believe there is always room to improve communication between administrators, educators, and parents, and I am committed to bridging that gap. I welcome your input—whether it’s sharing concerns, highlighting strengths, or identifying opportunities for growth. Together, we can ensure that every child in East Haven has the best possible educational experience. I would be honored to continue representing you on the Board of Education.
